Methods of Korean Oriental medicine

Western medicine mainly treats specific diseases of individual organs; while, as Eastern medicine looks for the underlying causes of the disease throughout the body.

The basic principle of Korean Oriental medicine is to restore harmony between Yin and Yang and bringing them to their natural state. Thus, Korean Oriental medicine addresses not just the symptoms, it aims to eliminate the causes of disease, in accordance with the principles of Yin and Yang. For example, You have a fever, a feeling of chest tightness, cold hands and feet. In this case, the Korean doctor of Oriental medicine will make a conclusion about the imbalance of heat in the organism and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

Methods of treatment in Korean Oriental medicine are extremely varied. It and medicines, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and manual therapy. Their effectiveness and safety are tested and proven throughout the millenniums.

Medications and prescriptions

Acupuncture in the treatment of defined points on the body or its individual parts, such as feet, fingers extremities that correspond to a specific disease or patient symptoms. Acupuncture is used in conjunction with other traditional methods, such as moxibustion, exercise therapy, diet therapy, etc. On the basis of the diagnosis the doctor will assign medication and the method of their application. The drug is prepared by mixing certain ingredients individually for each patient dosage.

Needles can be used as a medical instrument, for people, for animals. Acupuncture is used to treat or relieve pain. According to various historical documents, acupuncture originated in Eastern China, adjacent to the Korean Peninsula, where more spread throughout East Asia.

It is believed that the first needles for therapeutic purposes have been used since the stone age. Stone needle was made of jade and had the shape of an awl or wedge. These needles are used to stimulate the skin nakalyvaniya point to cause bleeding or releasing pus. In primitive society people, living in hilly or dark damp places, may have suffered from various diseases, pains and wounds. All this gives the explanation why in everyday life appeared stone needle.

There are nine types of needles used in classical acupuncture, which vary in size, shape and purpose. Needles are stuck into the skin or muscle, at different depths. In rare cases, a knife if needed to cut and release blood or pus, as well as to free the joint from the accumulated liquid. From all kinds of needles are most commonly used filiform needles. They have 2 – 17 cm in length and relatively thin – only 0.2 – 0.4 mm in thickness. After injection into the skin of the needle remain there for some time, not causing harm and not causing irritation.

Acupuncture is used to treat all kinds of diseases, including internal, surgical, gynecological, pediatric, get ENT and eye diseases, controlling the flow of energy “Ki”. It is also used for anesthesia, diagnosis, and treatment of animals. In addition, acupuncture is used when we need to help people to quit Smoking, and even in plastic surgery. Acupuncture provides quick relief and healing for sprains, indigestion, convulsions in children, and in such acute diseases, as angina, conjunctivitis, syncope. In chronic diseases, such as neuralgia and dysphasia, achieving satisfactory results requires long-term treatment.

The method of moxibustion is heat stimulation. The medicinal material is burnt in a certain place on the skin, or place a hot-processed smoke from burning materials. As a medicinal material most often used dried tarragon. In the process of burning increased body temperature, so this method can be used for all diseases that have “the cold nature”. If during a session of acupuncture You temporarily lose energy “heads”, moxibustion increases, making this method effective to treat weakness due to the lack of viability “change” and chronic diseases that drain your energy.

There are two types of moxibustion: direct and indirect. In direct method, a dry wormwood in the form of a pug prizhivaetsya directly on the skin and in places of suppuration, thereby improving patient health and strengthening immunity. In the indirect method, skin not in contact with burning grass, and only exposed to the heat of burning cigars.

Compared with acupuncture, cupping is rather simple. Banks are placed on specific acupuncture points “Kegel” on the skin, creating a vacuum through heat pressing or banks so that it is firmly held on the body.

Soon, in place of mounting the cans begins to surge blood. This procedure can be used to improve the composition of blood or the removal of bad blood from the circulatory system. This process also activates the exchange of gases in the body, which, in turn, facilitates metabolism and stimulates the autonomic nervous system. The result is improved digestion, defecation, and sleep.

Banks, basically, are wet or dry. Wet banks are used for passing blood. In this case care should be taken not to lose more than 10 ml of blood per session. Dry banks are not associated with bloodletting, and apply only to suction on the skin. They are used for immunocompromised patients, or when healing can only be achieved by changing the composition of the blood.

Due to the ease of application, the banks that much easier to put on the region of the point “Kegel” than to accurately deliver a needle, have long been a popular means of treatment. Currently, many families in South Korea banks use to treat minor aches and pains, for example, in neuralgia of the shoulder.

Manual therapy “Chun”

Chuna is a therapy that prevents and cures disease by using pressure with your hands or massage points “Kegel” and “kennack” (meridians and the way of energy “Ki”). The treatment helps restore balance “Ki-Hel” – energy, nourishing organs, helping the “Ki” naturally flow through “kennack”; improves metabolism and increases the body’s resistance to microbes. Manual therapy has recently become widely used for correction of the spine and joints and to improve circulation.
